Personality Traits of a Successful Model
Professional modeling is a tough business. Only certain people can stand up to the hard work schedule and stress that modeling demands. Here are some traits which help models suceed.
Love the Show - When the show starts do you come alive? Do you love performing and being in front of an audience, whether it's a room full of people or the eye of the camera, you will enjoy modeling. If it is something you enjoy you are more apt to work hard at it, take greater risk, and work through the hardships that come along. If you love the work, you will love your life. If you hate the work, you'll be miserable.
Intelligent and Focused Being a successful model is so much more than a great smile and figure. You need to take direction quickly and understand instruction quickly. If you can't learn it fast you you will be frustrated. When working you need to keep distractions to a minimum. This means no texting and no calling the boyfriend, mother, father, or girlfriend. In other words, put your cell phone away and focus on the job.
Be an Extrovert You will be constantly meeting new people and walking into new situations. You will be performing before strangers every day. If you are shy get over it or you will fail.
Good Self Esteem Your feelings will be hurt. A strong belief in yourself can help pick yourself up and get you through those tough times. The fact that you are wanting to be in this field is a plus to your psychie. Don't lose it.
Self-Starter - As a model you are an independent businessperson in charge of your own career. You must be able to take charge and be prepared to promote your product. (Yourself) Waiting on the phone will not get you hired. Your competition is out there promoting themselves.
Be Prepared for Hard Work Modeling takes a lot of hard work and stamina. A photo shoot can run as long as 16 hours and at all times of the day & night. Just getting a job can have you running all over town. And at the end of the day you still have to do all the stuff needed to keep you in shape and looking beautiful.
Projection - You need to be able to project your personality, your charisma, your charm, and your sex appeal. You need to be able to sell yourself to be able to sell the product. A good organization to learn how to do this better is ToastMasters. (Offsite Link)
Be Ambitious - Careers in modeling won't come easy. You will have ups and downs before you achieve success. The desire to succeed and keeping your eye on your goals will help you over the temporary set backs that come along.
B Organized - Remember these Be's of modeling.
